The James C. Brown Youth Center, Inc. was created to honor the late James C. Brown, an advocate for the youth, young, and the under privileged individuals of Onslow County.
The Center was establish in 2001, and received its 501 3(c) status in 2007. The Center reaches at-risk youth by empowering them to take control of life’s challenges with focusing on the 5R’s: Reading, wRiting, aRthmetic, Respect, and Responsibility. Young adults are mentored and taught to become vibrant citizens.
The under privilege individuals are helped through workshops, conferences, and directed to resources to help them become productive individuals in Onslow County.
The center introduced STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to the youth in 2011 in the summer enrichment program. Each year the James C. Brown Youth Center, Inc. takes the youth to a new level.
